Capacitive level gauge

An improved sectionalized capacitive level gauge is provided. A display member having appropriate openings therein is put between a set of sectionalized first members and a second person in a capacitive level gauge.

The invention pertains to a computer device for measuring capacitively the degree of a fluid in a reservoir or container.

In particular the invention pertains to a capacitive level gauge which is adapted to be properly used, as an example, in storage tanks (for example on ships or on land), in depots, road tankers, retail stations, etc.

Level gauges in relation to the capacitance measurement principle are often known and operate as follows:

The particular level gauge consists of two means, as an example, isolated metal tubes, placed vertically in the fluid in the tank or container, the 2 means forming a capacitance. The fluid fills the space between the 2 means and serves as a dielectric. The dielectric between the 2 means influences the capacitance value of the gauge. The influence of a determined dielectric on a capacitance value is known to those skilled in the art and won't be explained in detail. Considering that the dielectric above the particular level in the tank or container can be a gas and the dielectric below the particular level can be a liquid, it is likely to be clear to those skilled in the art that from a capacitance-measurement the degree of this liquid in the tank can be determined.Hit on capacitive level sensors to explore more about our services and sites. It has already been known to utilize a sectionalized level gauge comprising a plurality of sections or segments, means for measuring the values of the segment-capacitance and means for deriving information concerning the particular level in the tank from the measured capacitance-values. However, such sectionalized level gauges require tight tolerances of the segments or sections when accurate measurements are required. However, obtaining the tight tolerances during construction and assembly is costly and time-consuming.

It's therefore an object of the present invention to supply a simplified and cheap sectionalized level gauge, specifically for use within retail stations, the transmission of the sections not being dependent on the section-tolerances.

It's another object of the invention to supply a sectionalized level gauge which can operate over a sizable selection of temperatures and is suited to operation in several liquids including crude oil and chemicals.
