Diamond Engagement Rings – The 5 “C” S Explained
Diamond engagement rings have not lost their popularity even with the endless reports of divorce rates always on the increase. It is true that a couples desire to let the world know that they are in love and want to commit to each other is still as strong today as its ever been. It gives a warm feeling inside that with all the pressures there are on people to succeed in life especially in the work-place that there is still the desire and optimism of creating a happy future with a chosen partner.
Now we all know that man has no real idea as to how a woman's mind works but that doesn't stop him in trying to find more ingenious ways in which to make that proposal. Going down on one knee may seem a little corny in this day and age but it is still one of the favored ways in which to propose. We've all read about guys that climb mountains, taken wild river rides and walked naked across deserts in an attempt to impress his future bride, yes she may be impressed by these crazy stunts but she will be more impressed if you have chosen an engagement ring she just loves.
Guys its important you familiarize yourselves with the four “C”'s before you venture out and buy a ring (I'll tell you of the 5th “C” later) Every diamond is unique there are no two diamonds the same anywhere in the world. In order to value a diamond the jeweler uses the four “C”'s that's; Carat-Cut-Colour and Clarity. All of these factors are considered when valuing a diamond or diamonds whether they are set in a ring or any other type of jewellery.
Carat is the method used to measure the weight of a diamond not its size. It is possible for two diamonds of equal weight to be different in price; this is because the cut, clarity and color between the two diamonds may differ.
Cut- when a diamond is first brought to the surface it looks nothing like the beautiful shining stone you will see in your choice of diamond engagement ring. This is where the jeweler's skill goes to work cutting and polishing the stone. This highly professional skill is what turns a dirty looking piece of stone into the glorious shiny diamond.
Color- A diamonds color is determined when it is deep inside the earth this will also affect its rarity and then in turn its value. The more a diamond is colorless the more expensive it is. Diamonds color gets graded by letters so; D,E,and F are the higher grades whilst G,H,I and so on are given to the others depending how close to colorless they are.mountain ring Sounds a bit like going back to school and learning the ABC again.
Clarity- this is how a diamonds flaws are measured or inclusions as they are sometimes known as. The fewer the flaws the better the diamonds clarity. A clarity scale will run like this; F= flawless, VVS= very very slight, VS= very slight and SI= slightly included and inclusions.
Before this is finished I promised you the 5th “C” this is “Caution” some guys will go out and buy the diamond engagement ring safe in the knowledge that their proposal will be accepted, others would rather wait until the proposal has been made and accepted then buy the ring. This “C” has its benefits in as much as that it gives you the opportunity to take your future bride along with you when choosing diamond engagement rings and safely checking off all the “C”'s.
