Patients who have been implanted with defective DePuy knee replacement systems report a trend of early failure rates. DePuy knee failure symptoms may surface in the months to years following a knee replacement procedure. Knee replacement components should last approximately 15 years, but many persons are reporting pain, swelling, and signs of infection in the two years following their knee replacement. Revision surgery is required to remove defective DePuy knee components, and may result in bone loss and other permanent injuries.
Doctors must provide the same level of care to all patients regardless of their race, gender, or economic status. Seeking compensation can be highly stressful for patients and their loved ones, but people need to know their rights. Even though Smith & Nephew had discontinued the initial-generation Journey models in 2013 and 2014, Smith & Nephew recalled more than 40,000 of its replacements in 2018. The most recent Exactech recall Exactech Knee Recall Lawyer to more than 140,000 implanted knee and ankle replacements. In 2014, about 40,000 NexGen knee replacements were recalled because of defective screws. All of these issues typically require a second surgery to correct the problems and replace the defective components. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons reports that nearly half of Americans develop knee osteoarthritis in at least one knee during their lifetime.
Knee replacement surgery is performed to alleviate pain and restore function in a damaged knee. During the procedure, a surgeon removes a damaged or diseased knee joint and puts an artificial implant in its place. By three months, most patients who have undergone knee surgery are walking without a limp and have regained full range of movement in their knee joint. If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Knee replacements are usually a last resort after a person has tried medications, corticosteroid injections or other non-invasive forms of treatment. For most, knee replacements become necessary when knee osteoarthritis progresses to a point where a person can no longer walk, climb stairs or even sit without pain.
