Zephyra, like all mounted archers, is small, slim, with strength belied by her seeming frailty. Hailing from Rezea, she hires her services to those who have the coin and who have interesting places for that coin to lead her. So driven is she toward experiencing the new and the unfamiliar that the wiser might suspect something else, something she isn't saying (and potentially isn't even aware of), is driving this nearly-mad wanderlust.

If you ask her, it's the money and the wonder of far-off places. But there are clues that something else is at work. She tends to be pugnacious, especially in the face of doubt as to her talents and capabilities. (Woe betide the common room of an inn when someone challenges her courage to her face!) Then there is the fact that she is very capable of dispatching foes ... from a distance, but up-close she tends to choose rapid changing of range rather than risk relying on her lacklustre in-person talents.

Still, she rides like the wind and fires arrow like a full-on storm. She has a well-paid future ahead of her.

DESCRIPTION

Sharp eyes can see past Kitty's loose coveralls, grease-smudged hands and face, and the baseball cap which has seen better days reading, in bad hand-embroidery, “Hawke Airways”, to the woman beneath. They'll still likely be given pause, if their intent is to “get to know her better” because the medium-sized woman beneath is still hard, self-confident, and while not exactly a beauty queen, has a face, peering out from beneath her bob-cut hair, that won't easily be forgotten. It's probably those crystalline eyes, incongruously blue, in stark contrast to the dirty (both literally and figuratively) blonde hair.

BACKGROUND

Jonah Hawke (“Jove” to his friends) was there in the dunes when the Wright Brothers first flew. He spent his life on this new form of travel, making and piloting ever more sophisticated aircraft until finally he built the Aetos Dios (though most just call it “The Eagle”), the plane he poured everything he'd learned about aircraft and then some into, using it to breach open the arctic wastelands of the Canadian far north, introducing civilization and trade to some of the worst the world has to offer.

When he vanished, presumed dead in, ironically, a civil aviation crash (that should teach him to fly anything but Hawke Airways!), Kitty inherited the Eagle, the Airways, and her father's gritty determination to keep the plane flying, the airline afloat, and the technology of flight ahead of the curve.

And along the way if she sorts out a few crimes and ends a few criminals, that's a bonus.

Of course being the good gal loses her a lot of income. Hawke Airways is expensive to run and Kitty is always barely a step ahead of the bills. This makes her take on risky missions that less crazy, less desperate (and, to be fair to her, less skilled) pilots would flee from in panic.

While not precisely known for her mental acuity, she makes up for this in her more physical talents and her dedication. She is not expected to be a member of the Galerie des Lumières, but more than likely would meet the lower standards of the Le Jardin des Mémoires upon retirement.

While not particularly memorable in appearance, she leaves deep impressions upon those she works with: seeming to lack ego and favouring dedication to the Sagga Fleet and its social security as it wends its way, wanderer-style, through the space lanes.

The judge gave him a choice: jail for 15 years or service in the armed forces.

He chose service.

The service was perfect for him, introducing him to much-needed discipline. He excelled as a soldier, then a special forces soldier, building up a massive reputation that rivalled his massive body count.

Silestra is a witch of the White Order of her people. Call of Hearth and Home (Divination) / Instant / Self / 10 (-8) : Grants a “PER +10” for a check to see where the caster is in relation to a known location.

Visions of the Divine (Divination) / 5m / 100ft / 1 (+1) : Slipping into a trance, the caster asks questions of unknown and dead gods asking for glimpses of the future. At level 1 the visions are very vague, but as the casting level is raised the details are more specific.

Dhuna Aura (Enchantment) / 5m / Touch / 3 (-7) : Target appears more attractive and alluring to members of compatible races, raising CHA by +3 for only appearance-related effects (not leadership or such).

Ensorcelled Enfeeblement (Enchantment) / 2m / Touch / 5 (-7) : This curse causes a single victim to feel exhausted as if from strenuous activity, applying a penalty equal to 1/3 the spell's level to all physical actions.

Steadfastness of the Forest (Enchantment) / 1m / Touch / 5 (-5) : Target receives +1 CON per 5 levels of spell casting.

Kriegsgaldr (Warrior Dance) (Enchantment) / 1m / Touch (3 targets) / 5 (-5) : Leading up to three in brief dance, the caster, chanting, and then upon touching each, grants them +1CR for every five levels of casting.

Ward Against Hexes (Ward) / 3m / Touch / 10 (-10) : A universal spell for young Dhuna initiates, practically ensures recipients are untouched by any hex; also used frequently in enchantments.

Eldritch Aura (Ward) / 5r / Touch / 1 (+1) : A shimmering aura called into being by long forgotten gods prevents the target from being harmed for up to 20hp of damage.

Eldritch Barrier (Ward) / 1m / Self / 1 (-6) : Incantation plus pointing produces a shimmering wall of force in the targeted area.

Backbiting Whispers (Ward) / 3m / Touch / 10 (-10) : The target of the spell will only hear the worst things about themselves from the mouths of friends and family, no matter what they actually say. Further, others will be more likely to notice bad things about the target than good while so afflicted.

Alir's Protective Sigil (Ward) / 1m / 10ft radius / 10 (-11) : A shining sphere of light provides a 20hp/PR20 wall against all spiritual or magical beings while in place. Mortal creatures experience no effect.

Sleeping Protector (Ward) / 1m / Touch / 10 (-15) : When spoken upon a target, said target has the passing attention of a powerful spirit. When attacked, the spirit activates and protects the target for one minute for up to 20hp of damage before disipating.

Bladeturn (Ward) / 1m / Self / 10 (-10) : For one minute the caster, without seeming to think or even see, deflects all attacks until 20HP of damage has been missed and the spell is broken.

Rage of the Jaka (Enchantment) / 1m / Touch / 5 (-5) : Target receives +1 STR per 5 levels of spell casting.

Faces of Death (Divination) / 5m / 50ft / 5 (-3) : Crooning and swaying before bodily remains less than a week old, the witch can, by entering a trance, see the last five minutes of that corpse's life as if they'd lived it.

The ironically named Ward McBoefe (in reality he looks more like a rat in human form than any kind of square-jawed, muscle-bound oaf) is someone upon whom a life of adventure essentially fell on. A mixture of an almost crippling gambling addiction, a bit of a tendency to get into brawls (in which he almost inevitably gets pounded flat) when he's had too much to drink, a proclivity to stick his nose into things which should remain septum-free, and a decent grasp of general non-scientific knowledge just keeps getting him into one trouble after another.

Srilladar is a trainee in the Merwald Defenders, a loose association of these anarchistic Sylvan Elves who inhabit the aforementioned woods. Their stated goal as a group is to defend the woods against incursions by enemies: humans to the south, the goblins and orcs to the east, dwarves to the west and, above all, in the smoking volcanos of the north, the dragons and demons of the Unbeliever Himself.

She has trained as one of the demon hunters, the second-smallest of the Defender groups, and is now ready to take up her duties, patroling the twisted northern end of the Merwald looking for the imps and other such infernal beings who persistently try to sneak into the woods to distort and poison it.
