Fire Hose and FOMO

I deleted my Librem One account. I never used the VPN tunnel. Their mail and chat servers were too unreliable and I stopped using them. Basically only thing left was my Mastodon account.

After reading several comments about moral bankruptcy of sir Tim Barnes-Lee, I tooted how the problem isn't twitter or facebook, but how we use them. I realised that my way of using Mastodon was problematic and ended up deleting my account.

My toot is gone with the account and I'm writing this as a replacement. The original text was something like this:

The problem isn't Twitter or Facebook, it's how we use it. We try to read as many posts as possible for fear of missing out. That means we don't put much effort on individual posts. Just make a snap judgement and possibly like or share.

I used Twitter and Facebook to follow my friends. I didn't know any people using Mastodon and therefore people I followed on mastodon were just some random people. I don't know enough about them to be interested in what they have to say or even necessarily have context to understand it.

Even though WriteFreely supports ActivityPub, it is designed for writing. There are no tools for interacting with readers. But for now this is my home in Fediverse.
