SLOWLY Team's cool new user Welcome email
Today I had a meeting
At our local Public Library, to discuss a proposal I sent, suggesting having an information session for local people, about the SLOWLY app.
I was very pleased to have this meeting. The original proposal was written two and a half years ago, when I was a newly minted Slowly user; but one who could already see the potential of the app, and wanted to share the love.
The first time I tried, no reply came to my email. Which was disappointing – I prepared a formal brief, as per my contact's request. A Word document, 3 pages, polished and professional. Two hours of work, invested on that.
And not even a thank you or acknowledgement was sent back. 🙄😕
This time I contacted a different person, who was receptive, replied — and we arranged a time to meet.
It went well
And now it appears we WILL have a session, as soon as pandemic control measures allow, early in 2022.
During this session, I demonstrated what Slowly is, what makes it special, and how a new SLOWLY user account is created. Something I would do in a public presentation, as well.
A new account, from scratch. New username and contact email, a new avatar was created, some Interest topics were selected. A quick look at User Explorer and how Filters can help us finding specific types of people, in certain locations only, or in a limited age group if desired.
A tentative date was arranged
And that was it, took just under an hour, and my contact was impressed. We have a tentative date planned already. 🙂👍
Just now I checked the email account I used earlier, for this 'test/demo' account, and was surprised to find a very nice email from Slowly Team there.
Which I am copying here for discussion and documentation. This is really neat. 😎 Their full email text follows.
Hi {{NewUserName}},
We are glad to hear that you have joined SLOWLY. It will be a unique experience for you.
Since we established this platform, we have gathered a group of people who are interested in taking the time to write letters. Compared with other social apps, SLOWLY has a relatively small user base. However, from the collected stories and feedback, we can truly feel the joy that users find in making pen pals, and such a unique experience of communicating in words is irreplaceable and should never be forgotten.
You may wonder why take the time to write a letter with hundreds or even thousands of words, given that there are many convenient and efficient ways of communication today?
In the future, we will provide some sharing and tutorials to help you gradually find the answer to this question and help you embark on this journey. Please rest assured that we will not spam tons of emails, as we believe that personal experience is the essence of the whole process.
We wish you a pleasant journey while making pen pals!
And I was surprised
The Welcome email contains that yellow button above, which links straight to the SLOWLY Web Client login page.
Which is wonderful. I am glad to see such a nice letter, and even more, to have the team pointing new users into the much more functional Web Client, which many new people never knew existed.
Well done, Team, and thank you!
