Yes, that happened to me, only once, but it's quite annoying, isn't it? That they would not pay attention to a simple detail like that, and give something the user will never use at all.
I found the Gift thing slowed down the loading of the program, and much prefer to use an older version which does not have it at all.
Your gift is ready!
When I got a 'Gift Avatar item' which was a clearly female dress, that was frustrating. As my friend wrote, there is NO gender check in the app in the Gifting function. Many people might end up with unusable avatar items.
The girly dress I received, for example. And which I have only used to take this snapshot to include here. 🙄
My new gifted item, never used...
I would prefer to have a control to disable Gifts in Settings; to allow for less clutter and faster response in the app.
Alas, I am not the only one
I remembered one of our subReddit users, a lady, mentioning her Roman Soldier helmet. She saw this Blog post, and commented on Reddit, adding the images of her Gifts... 😜🙄 Thanks, OeufBenedicte! 🙂

The new Gift feature
Slowly version 6.6.x is the one which introduced the 'Gift' feature. I regularly would not even look at it, as I preferred an older, stable and faster performing version.
Alas, they disabled the versions older than v.6.xx recently, so some of us loyalists were FORCED to stop using the much more responsive v.5.2.21 one.
I found the Gift feature in this newer version cumbersome, and have gone back to older stable versions. At the moment, that is version 6.0.11, the best performing and most stable in the v.6 branch, imo.
See this post, for instructions and details if you prefer an older version, for one reason or another (like being able to not show the Slowly Stories in your Android Mobile version).
There's a Notifications control
Someone sent me a DM reminding me there's a option to turn off Notifications for the Gifting function, thank you, but what I was suggesting here is to have an option to Disable the Gifting all together.
Reason being : there appears the Gifting is processed by a separate, likely very overloaded, server. And the app turns sluggish while accessing that, which I find painful.
Performance implications versus Nice Gifts ?
The version 6.6.x was painfully slow in my experience. But some people reported getting nice Coin gifts, so your mileage may vary... 😜
I do all my reading and writing using the SLOWLY Web client on my laptop, which is much more productive. But some aspects of Slowly still require using one of the mobile versions (i.e., user searches, avatar editing, free coins gathering for example).
Maybe posting this in my Blog will get SLOWLY Team's attention and an item added to their To Do list? ('add check for user gender on Gift function', hummmm..) 😉
