Friends Near and Afar

Friends Near and Afar, Letters we Share and Cherish.

A copy of a Direct Message I just wrote:

now I have already received 4 purely female avatars as a bonus for profiles with a male gender

Yes, that happened to me, only once, but it's quite annoying, isn't it? That they would not pay attention to a simple detail like that, and give something the user will never use at all.

I found the Gift thing slowed down the loading of the program, and much prefer to use an older version which does not have it at all.

Slowly Stories are interesting for many of us

As potential users even, I remember reading some of them at the time I was just discovering the app, and they helped me see it's potential. There are a lot of happy ones.

However, as we get into using SLOWLY daily, some of us would prefer to be able to NOT see the Stories showing as part of our app or Web Client.

Feeling the urge to Ghost someone ?

Nowadays ghosting is a common experience for most SLOWLY users, as things are getting worse it seems. New users have reported their despair with this.

My friend and penpal -little-ghost had lots of good ideas and wrote some excellent topics on our sub-Reddit for the SLOWLY app.

While sadly their account at Reddit has been deleted, various important User Tips posts they made have been preserved – and I thought they deserved to appear in a Blog format. So, here is the third one.

A common experience for most SLOWLY users, as things are getting worse. New users have frequently commented about this, and their resulting despair. 😕

They left, sending me a note in their final letter

Inspired by a new topic posted on our subReddit for the SLOWLY app, I commented and ended up thinking this could be a nice Blog post too – the situation is so common, most of us in the pen pal communities can relate to.

A response to a fellow Slowly user on reddit

Their topic is new, and already received various replies back – the question they asked resonates with people, we have likely experienced similar situations.

I know I have, and I commented and shared some thoughts, suggestions and links to example letters I wrote and later published.

Plus, an example of a dysmal 'letter' which was a last straw in one of my penpals correspondences.

When Less is definitively More

Reducing on screen clutter with a set of Filters with uBlock Origin is the main idea.

We recently had a topic on our subReddit asking Slowly Team to please consider adding a Settings control, to enable or disable showing certain elements on the Slowly UI.

While the original poster had in mind the Mobile version of the app, those of us using the Web Client can do something about it.

It started with a simple question

A question in a very short topic in our subReddit, asking about the minimum time interval between watching video ads :

Don't you guys think 15 minutes should be reduced a bit. Like 10 minutes for 1 coin for an advertisement?

This started a discussion that went a lot deeper. And I thought it deserves to appear in a full Blog post, so here it is.

An important date

When we remember our lost relatives, visit cemeteries, or simply attend church in rememberance.

This year we have 3 new SLOWLY stamps for this date, one each from México and Guatemala, plus a very pretty Global issue. Today's post has research on all of those.

Wouldn't you like to know exactly how many ?

Today a new topic appeared in our SLOWLYapp subReddit, and it was a Techy one, with some fresh insights we had not seen until now. The post describes steps to take to get an EXACT value for our Sent and Received letters, and is not hard to do.

All the Details needed for both Firefox and Chromium family browsers are included in this post. Enjoy!
